ASP Women’s World Tour Continues to Damage their Credibility

Maya Gabeira.jpg

The Moviestar Peru Classic, the fifth stop of the ASP Women’s World Tour, was postponed for a day when Head Judge Dave Shipley decided last week not that the waves were too small, but rather that the waves were too big. Shipley’s decision further eroded the professional credibility of the ASP Women’s World Tour.

Sunset Beach Community Tries to Deny Annexation by Huntington Beach

Sunset Beach Surfers.jpg

The Sunset Beach community, realizing how pathetic it is that Huntington Beach still calls itself Surf City even though it only sees a few good days of surf each year, has decided to make an attempt at denying being annexed by Huntington Beach, preferring to become its own city.

Nothing New to Report

No_News.jpg

Apologies for the lack of stories lately. There just isn’t much going on in action sports right now, at least nothing we care about. Big wave season’s over, ASP World Tour’s on hiatus until July, snow’s melted away, nothing really to report in the other sports with the exception of the Metal Mulisha joining NASCAR (chalk that one up in the random category, good luck Deegs). Our feature surfing contributor Nugable is realizing, like the rest of the bloggers out there, that writing on the cheap (or in most cases, on the free) gets old quick as he’s been MIA from us and his own personal blog for some time now. Still working on getting the radio crew back full-steam. In the meantime, enjoy some of our older interviews and Cyrus will have some more news coming up shortly.

U.S. Representative Bill Posey, a Republican whose district includes Kelly Slater’s hometown of Cocoa Beach, Florida, joined U.S. Representative Mazie Hirono of Hawaii to introduce a bipartisan resolution recognizing Kelly Slater as an official Surf Ambassador for his numerous lifetime accomplishments and contributions to the sport of surfing. The resolution passed the U.S. House of Representatives unanimously, thus making Slater the first official U.S. Surf Ambassador.

Classic 1970’s San Francisco Surf Footage

Fort Point.jpg

Vinnie Hasson, co-host of the hit San Francisco Bay Area morning radio show “Sarah and Vinnie”, is an avid surfer who grew up in Orange County and provided morning surf reports for KIOZ in San Diego. Last week, Hanson was talking on his morning program about vintage surf footage he found on YouTube from 1972 – 1975 of Fort Point and Ocean Beach in San Francisco. The footage was shot by Dr. Brian N. Tissot, a Professor of Earth & Environmental Sciences at Washington State University Vancouver.

Burning Bridges with Snowboarder Magazine

If there’s one thing that’s frustrating about the snowboard industry it’s all the false promises people dish out. What’s even more upsetting is the amount of people that just fuck you over for their own personal game. Yeah sure it happens in all industries and that’s fine, but most people in this one just dismiss it like nothings wrong with it at all or the fact that because who they work for is such a giant corporation the little guy can get bent over and have a broom handle shoved up their ass. News flash times are changing.

Millions of gallons of oil have leaked from British Petroleum’s Deepwater Horizon rig off the coast of Louisiana after the explosion three weeks ago. The United States Coast Guard estimates more than 210,000 gallons (although 5,000 barrels sounds much more manageable doesn’t it?) spew into the Gulf waters each day and there is no end in sight. Other unofficial estimates are at nearly one million gallons a day. This will undoubtedly become the biggest oil disaster in the history of the U.S. and possibly the world.
