Even Kelly Slater Was Impressed by This Prank

Kelly Slater Pranked.jpg

A French actress who goes by the name Zazon recently used her television sketch comedy show to pull a prank on the Greatest Surfer Ever, Kelly Slater. Zazon stalked Slater at a surf contest, seeking an autograph while mingling with other surfers. After finding Slater and asking for his autograph while heavily hitting on him, Zazon made the situation even more awkward by revealing that she is a transsexual. Slater’s stunned response is classic.

A Tale of Two Skateboarders

Jacob Isom.jpg

One skateboarder helped possibly avert holy war this past weekend, while another skateboarder’s moral compass was perilously off. As such, we have a tale of two skateboarders, one who is being hailed as a hero of sorts for preventing religious conflict, while another is facing serious jail time for allegedly committing multiple felonies, including scamming the government out of $15,000 in workers’ compensation.

Anthony Kiedis & Flea Catch Some Waves

Anthony Kiedis and Flea Surfing.jpg

I usually cringe when I see celebrities attempting to be cool by surfing in front of photographers. With the two legendary members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers however, I applaud. Especially since Anthony Kiedis looks like he knows what he’s doing. Kiedis and Flea were participating in a charity event for the Surfrider Foundation.

Andy Irons Wins Billabong Pro Tahiti, Kelly Slater Regains Overall Lead

Andy Irons Tahiti.jpg

Andy Irons let the surfing world know that the former three-time World Champion is back, winning the Billabong Pro Tahiti for the second time in his career. Irons defeated former rival Kelly Slater in the semis before taking down CJ Hobgood in the Finals at Teahupoo. Slater’s semifinal appearance, coupled with early defeats for both Jordy Smith and Taj Burrow, allowed Slater to become the overall leader in the adjusted ratings for the ASP World Title.

So This is Why the Lineup was Empty Today

IMG00145.jpg

I decided to head out to Linda Mar today for a surf session. I didn’t expect much given the forecasts. Gloomy weather, moderate onshore winds, mild swell. What surprised me was an empty summer lineup at Pacifica. There was one other surfer in the water with me for the first half-hour or so, and he was easily 100 feet north of where I was positioned. The next two hours I had the ocean all to myself. Took a fun board out and caught a few really good rides. Fun day. Came out of the water, got dressed, then saw this sign.

Jordy Smith: An Exclusive Interview

PA140290.jpg

When the contest light turns green at the Billabong Pro Tahiti, all eyes won’t be on the greatest surfer of all-time, Kelly Slater, who has won this event three times. Nor will they be on former three-time World Champion Andy Irons, who was a winner at Teahupoo back in 2002. They won’t be on goofy-footers Bobby Martinez and C.J. Hobgood, both former Billabong Pro Tahiti Champions. Neither will they be on local Tahitian chargers like Manoa Drollet and Michel Bourez. No, all eyes will be on the number one surfer in the world, Jordy Smith.

This is How You Win Converts

A Hungarian Catholic priest has got the marketing strategy down for recruiting young people into the Church. Using an amazing display of skateboarding skills, Father Zoltan Lendavi dazzled a young crowd with his surprising abilities. The 45 year-old Father Lendavi, who learned as a teenager how to skateboard, thinks he can use skateboarding to help spread the word.

ASR 2010 Recap

IMG_5136.JPG

Having been involved in the action sports industry for the better part of a decade, I have somehow managed to not once attend the industry’s largest trade show, ASR (Action Sports Retailer). With an exciting new business venture about to get underway, the time was now to attend what was once an action sports retailer expo and is now an action sports extravaganza of epic proportions.

Jeremy Flores Denies Little Kid’s Autograph Request

Jeremy Flores Autograph.jpg

With hilarious narration, video footage shows a little grom armed with a calendar or poster of some kind running on the beach. The kid approaches Jeremy Flores, who is leaving the water after finishing a competition heat. Despite the little kid’s begging and pleading, Flores shakes the kid off. The kid is left to his knees, with tears being his only consolation.
