Avalanche Kills Squaw Valley Ski Patrol Member

A winter storm that has dumped as much as six feet of snow in the Sierra Nevadas has killed 41 year-old Andrew Entin, a veteran ski patrol member at Squaw Valley.  The storm was so severe that entire freeways, including I-80 and I-50, were shutdown last night due to spinouts and jackknifed trucks.

Chairlift Cable Snaps: 17 Injured at Spanish Ski Resort

It looks like Whistler/Blackcomb isn't the only resort having problems with their lift systems.  A ski resort in the Spanish Sierra Nevadas (yes, they have their own version of the Sierra Nevadas) avoided a major catastrophe today when a cable of a ski chairlift snapped, causing numerous lift chairs to fall several feet to the ground.  Amazingly, there were no serious injuries.

The Smoking Gun, infamous for posting police reports on celebrity crimes, recently had a contest asking viewers to guess which celebrity wore a sneaker tied to a crime.  While Chris Brown (the man who beat the shit out of Rihanna) was the leading vote-getter, the correct choice was actually none other than snowboarding and skateboarding megastar Shaun White.

In tragic news, a woman skier who was stranded with her husband in the Canadian backcountry died after Canada's national police force failed to react to initial reports of an SOS signal stamped out on a mountainside.

Craigslist Ad Offers Drugs for Ski Passes. Naturally, Dumbasses Respond.

For every yin there's a yang, and for every dumbass there's a genius.  In this case the geniuses are the Mono County Sheriff's Department, who decided to post an ad on Craigslist offering ski lift tickets to Mammoth Mountain in exchange for drugs.  Naturally, six dumbasses responded, and they're now in jail.

Second Major Accident at Whistler This Season

In what is frighteningly becoming a regular occurence at Whistler/Blackcomb, a lift chair crashed over 25 feet to the ground.  This follows a scary accident that occured just two months ago when a Gondola Tower collapsed, trapping 12 people and injuring several others.
