The New Generation of Major League Surfers

Barry Zito Surfing.jpg

Surfers playing in Major League Baseball are nothing new. Barry Zito, starting pitcher for the San Francisco Giants, was the first person to ever surf what has now become a popular break in Fiji. Kevin Correia, who throws for his hometown San Diego Padres, was good enough in his early years as a surfer to earn a sponsorship from a local Pacific Beach surf shop. Former players Ryan Klesko and Brent Mayne were also avid surfers, joining Zito regularly for surf trips. The buck doesn’t stop there; a new guard of surfers is appearing in Major League clubhouses, trying to make their respective clubs while dreaming of catching far-off waves.

Surfers Cove.jpg

Louie Psihoyos is the director of the Oscar-winning documentary “The Cove”, a movie which focuses on the horrifying Japanese dolphin hunting industry. Just days before the Academy Awards, where Psihoyos and his crew won the Oscar and had their acceptance speech cut-off because one of the activists featured in the film was holding up a sign on-stage, Psihoyos involved himself in a sting operation at an expensive Santa Monica sushi restaurant called The Hump that exposed the restaurant for selling pieces of endangered Sei whale meat.

KNBR Still Lists The Extreme Scene on their Contact Page

Extreme Scene KNBR Contact Page.jpg

Nearly nine months after KNBR unexpectedly, and stupidly, dropped The Extreme Scene from their programming lineup, their crack staff continues to remind everyone that incompetence runs rampant they're on top of things.  On their ‘Contact Us’ page (which is directly linked to the main page), lo and behold The Extreme Scene is listed as a contact.  Nice to see the management at Cumulus continue to prove that they have absolutely no idea what they’re doing.  Radio management in the 21st Century: It’s Fantastic!

The Great Baja California Odisea

Baja Odisea Map.jpg

The theme of this past year, since I began my stint as an unemployed traveler and freelance journalist, has been road trips. Following The Great KL&C Northwest Odyssey, the winds of adventure this time were blowing south, leading me to the great and vast southern extension of California that is Baja.

Cute Kittie

I'll tell you what I've been up to, a whole lot of everything. Doing three times as much & getting half the pay. Sound familiar? I'm not trying to be negative, but I'm sorry to let you all know the economy has shocked the extreme sports industry just as it has shocked the world. The only positive is that extreme sports are still somewhat of a niche, so it's not as affected as everything else.
