With the global economy still in turmoil, amazing pieces of land are continually popping up in the real estate market.  Case in point: AIG, which owns Stowe Mountain Resort in Vermont, has put it up for sale.  And with three resorts in the U.S. still ski-only, here's a chance for a savvy investor to even the score.

I got up at the butt-crack of dawn today for the sole purpose of hitting this south swell before the herd arrived. I am never, ever a part of the dawn patrol, but unlike Cyrus and Steve's unemployed asses, I have a job so more often than not I have to be one of those weekend warrior assholes. Considering it's May, and I was in Santa Cruz, the last thing I expected were rain drops spoiling the fun.

A week back, Gretchen Bleiler hosted her second annual CoverGirl Snow Angels Invitational, a women’s only competition held in Aspen, Colorado (discriminatory whores).  The women’s comps usually bore the living daylights out of me, but a certain rider caught my attention, and I quickly realized who the future of women’s snowboarding is.

In addition to being the home of Surf City, USA (because they have the best surf, not because all the surf companies are based there unlike Huntington Beach), Santa Cruz is also home to the second-biggest pot school in the country: UC Santa Cruz (Humboldt St. holds a comfortable lead in the top spot).  Which is why it is all the more surprising that UCSC officials are trying to put the kibosh on 420 festivities this year.

Talk about the feel good story of the year.  A dog that fell overboard in rough seas off the coast of Australia was reunited with its owners after surviving for four months on a remote island.  The family, which lost the dog when their boat sailed through choppy waters, was devastated until learning that the dog was alive and well.

In light of actress Natasha Richardson’s unexpected death after a fall on a bunny slope resulted in a fatal head injury, The Canadian province of Quebec is considering proposing legislation to force snowboarders and skiers to wear helmets when riding.

Last Saturday, the Monster Energy AMA Supercross FIM World Championships were held in Toronto’s Skydome (I think they call it the Rogers Center now).  Because of rain, organizers decided to close the retractable roof.  Problem is, with the roof closed, the stadium started to trap carbon monoxide fumes, and some 300 people were forced to evacuate.

While filming footage in Alaska for one of his new movies, Travis Rice unintentionally set off an avalanche and barely managed to get out of the way.  The footage was captured on several different cameras, and makes you both cringe and open your mouth in awe all at the same time.
