Since they decided to postpone the contest window from last year’s December 1st opening back to the old January 1st date, the suits running the business side at Mavericks are starting to pull out all the stops in what is becoming a very likely scenario of no Mavericks contest this year.
With a little over a month to go before the contest window closes, the suits running Mavericks are doing everything they can to garner attention to both their website and their new line of apparel (which they are debuting at Magic Trade Show instead of ASR, yet another baffling move). The latest hilarity stems from a viral ad campaign featuring a couple of highly-unlikely scenarios captured via video (none of it is real folks, despite the fact that some writers think it could actually be real).
Links to the videos are below. They’re entertaining, and sadly the suits’ strategy is working, since I’m writing about it as well. Couldn’t they have saved the money used to produce these pieces, and pay real surfers to webcast the event instead of a ski commentator?
