Mass Evacuation at AMA Supercross Championships in Toronto

Last Saturday, the Monster Energy AMA Supercross FIM World Championships were held in Toronto’s Skydome (I think they call it the Rogers Center now).  Because of rain, organizers decided to close the retractable roof.  Problem is, with the roof closed, the stadium started to trap carbon monoxide fumes, and some 300 people were forced to evacuate.

At approximately 11 pm, carbon monoxide detectors in the Renaissance Hotel, which overlooks the field, started to go off.  The fire department responded, with the Hard Rock Café also evacuating their patrons for about an hour.

Some people reported feeling ill, but oxygen treatment helped those feeling unwell.  Thankfully, there were no serious injuries.  James Stewart won the race, his series-leading ninth win of the year.
