Vinnie Hasson, co-host of the hit San Francisco Bay Area morning radio show “Sarah and Vinnie”, is an avid surfer who grew up in Orange County and provided morning surf reports for KIOZ in San Diego. Last week, Hanson was talking on his morning program about vintage surf footage he found on YouTube from 1972 – 1975 of Fort Point and Ocean Beach in San Francisco. The footage was shot by Dr. Brian N. Tissot, a Professor of Earth & Environmental Sciences at Washington State University Vancouver.

Dr. Tissot’s footage using an 8mm camera captures the early-70’s styles of boards and riding, with all surf footage focused on Fort Point and Ocean Beach. In one part of the film, Military Police are shown arresting Tissot and his friend Jeff Chamberlain, back before it was legal to surf in the Fort Point area due to the military’s ownership of the Presidio land. Tissot and Chamberlain were cited with “trespassing on military property for purposes unlawful.Dr. Tissot’s YouTube channel features vintage surf films of various locations throughout the 70’s and 80’s.
