A surfing dog named Buddy won the 5th Annual Surf Dog Competition at Imperial Beach, CA.  Buddy, a Jack Russell terrier who was recently the first dog to be inducted into the Surf Dog Hall of Fame, won his fifth Surf Dog Competition and remains undefeated in surf dog contests.  His owner, Bruce Hooker of Ventura, said after the win that it may be time for the 14 year-old Buddy to retire.

The Surf Dog Competition, which is organized by pet food company Eukanuba, helped raise over $100,000 for the Helen Woodward Animal Center.  With numerous shelters and rescue organizations currently struggling to find homes for dogs, Northern California could certainly a surf dog contest of its own to help raise funds, with potential locations including Pacifica State Beach and Cowell's in Santa Cruz.  All photos courtesy of Eileen Maher with the Port of San Diego.
